Glitz and Glamour

I've been dying to share with you my Sequin suit. I am in loooooove, like head over heels in love with it u can't even imagine. I am a sucker for sequin I think I have proven to you all time and time again but this suit is like the most fantastic thing in my collection. You all are like where the hell are you going to wear that, or better you than me and well I don't give a damn, I am just so excited about it. The suit has a hint of classic Chanel. I won't tell you the price but it was super frugal. I have worn the jacket already which makes it even better because as separates, I will get my money's worth! I am off to try it on again- smooches!

Winter Wardrobe Staple

I am sooooooo last year with this post but better late than never- right? I have a little secret I am not a major sheer stocking person. I either wear dark tights or fishnets. Fishnets I actually prefer over tights but on a cold day, tights win over. My favorite hosiery brands are Andrea Jovine which I first discovered at gasp, Strawberry's many many moons ago and Hue. Both Andrea Jovine and Hue have the best selection of microfiber hosiery at the best price. I have bought super matte almost legging like tights, thick and fun fishnets and well as funky patterned trouser socks. On top of that I have never, ever paid more than $10 for a pair. Just because they are cheap does not make them cheap in quality, no no my friend, I have gotten years of mileage on these tights. No snags, no pops at the crouch or runs. My secret is washing them with Woolite in a hosiery bag and then hang dry- so old school. I have also found my two favorite brands of hosiery at my favorite retailers, Filene's Basement, Daffy's and Loehmann's! I advice you to stock up on these stocking stuffers- Lol!

When you think Walmart, 9 times out of 10 you are not thinking fab, frugal without a doubt, but definitely not fab. Well, Norma Kamali, a veteran of American sportswear has a line carried at Walmart that I myself believe is pretty chic. With an Active wear and Career wear line, the pieces are chic, fun, classic and oooooh cheap! Two items that really stood out were the Leopard Print Wrap Dress- such a sexy first date dress and this sleek fun classic coat for just $35 bucks. Take a look at some of the key pieces that I myself want to grab up!

In the Search of a Flat

New Yorkers walk more than any other Americans. I can contest, I love to walk. Driving is forbidden in my world, and taxis are a luxury. Don't get me wrong a fly ass high heel does get a lot of action but a great flat is always needed. I am currently on a search for a new pair of flats and I am 0-0. Either, it's to funky, to expensive, to flat- yes flats can be to flat or to delicate. Talk about disappointing. With incentive after incentive I still can't decide on a pair. I've been to Saks, Zappos, Zara, Daffy's, Loehmann's, and Gucci and still coming up dry. It's been so bad that I had one of two of my favorite pairs, resoled for $30 bucks almost half of what I paid for the shoe- uuugh. I've been surfing the net and I think I may have to concede and narrow it down to one of these three pairs.

High

Saks Gucci Bamboo Ballerina $450

These are super comfy but I don't know about price.

Medium

Pour La Victoire $195

They're embellished which is always a plus. The suede can be a killer if I get caught in the rain.

Low
Overstock.com Lumiani $86.70

My grandmother loves patent leather. My only fear is that they will take forever to break in.

What do you think is the best for me?

Amelia Biopic Fashion Inspiration

This past Friday at the Ziegfeld Theater, I saw a screening of Amelia, starring Hilary Swank and Richard Gere. The movie doesn't deter that much from fact, there is a love triangle thrown in but mostly historically accurate. The costumes are stunning. I'm talking amazing, functional fashion reflecting career, modernity and femininity in the 20's and 30's. Not only was Amelia Earhart a trailblazer for aeronautics and of course feminism, but she also relevant in branding a. After some research I found out that amongst being a pilot and teacher, Earhart was also a womenswear designer and she also had a line of luggage. Earhart's style is still reflected today. The leather bombers, wide leg trousers, silk scarves and that haircut, are still seen today. Kasia Walicka Maimone is a guaranteed Oscar Nominee. Check out some stills from the movie below.

The Last 48

Artwork courtesy of Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation

I love a dramatic post title, I know you were expecting some poorly dressed detective kneeling over a dead body but nope, sorry not on this blog. Really, no the last 48 have been super busy and fun. Staring with Tuesday night's Shoe Box event out in Long Island. A group of stylists, editors and bloggers were imported from the city to take in shoe porn at it's finest. With a classic and fun collection of both European and American shoe designers, Shoe Box is the real McCoy. This multi-location one stop shop for heels is most definitely on my radar. Take a look at the pics.

Yesterday, my friend and fellow blogger Glamarama hit up the Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation, Building Bounty-ful Bridges Mural Unveiling in Chelsea. Brothers and Hip Hop Founders, Rev Run and Russel Simmons, spoke to students from Harlem's P.S. 165 on not only staying in school, but finding a passion and seeking not only fun out of it but functionality. Building Bridges is part of a traveling art project where children in six U.S. cities collaborate on painting bridges across the country. It was very moving, as I majored in Art in college and also knowing that Art and Music are usually, the first programs that get cut in public schools. If, you have children in public school or know of any, please know that Math and Science are great but, creative classes foster children as well! Take a look at Uncle Russ below.

Finally, I visited the YSL Sample Sale. The line was long as well and the whole mandatory bag and coat check was a pain in the ass. There were bags, although they screamed Summer- raffia and white Tribute Tote and one white Downtown. Shoes were blah, mostly 3 to 4 seasons old and not one single pair of Tributes. Now don't get me wrong, there where some hits, like the belt sections buy 2 get a third free . As well, as Glamamara finding this super dope all leather pilot hat for less than $50. The sale is until tomorrow 2 pm. I may make one last dash to see of any price cuts but, don't hold your breath!
